Chika Kishimoto Lindsay
Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design
I am a Japanese artist/designer, who calls Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand home since 2008.
My final exhibition work celebrates the beauty of animals through abstracted lines and shapes. Focusing on the movements and tensions created in animal bodies, abstract forms are explored through drawings into sculptures. I am interested in dialogues that happen between the sculptures and viewers; reflecting our intriguing relationships to nature.
My primary engagement is in movements of a form that occur in the vastness of nature; whether it is tangible or intangible. My upbringing enables me to enjoy investigating traditional materials from a contemporary point of view with a sense of Zen aesthetics. My concern for our surroundings guides me to use sustainable materials where possible.
